An old discarded idea

I was browsing through my drawing book looking for an old sketch which I wanted to work on properly, when I came across an OC I once made for Hetalia last year (gasp!).

I don't think he'll fit anywhere in my current headcanon (which is pretty much void of non-official characters), but its interesting to read through my old notes and see how developed my story was for him. (laughs)

Quick drawing of OC in SAI, wearing what's supposed to be an Austrian Tracht...

Looking back even further, I actually uploaded a pic of him in my DA. But Austria was still in his hideous look back then, so I'd rather not link to it. (^^;)

Speaking of which, I need to get rid of that pic...

(I'm still seriously considering redrawing my first yonkoma...)

So... who is this kid? In my notes, I nicknamed him "Őrvi", which is short for Őrvidék, although his current name is "Burgenland". I had wanted him to be Roderich and Elizaveta's son, thus the reason why he's still young. Although this is actually historically impossible, since he's been around even before the marriage. He is considered the youngest province of Austria today though. Meh. His background is seriously messed up. (lol)

Well, whomever his parents are, he was definitely under Elizaveta's care, but in reality he spent more time with Roderich, to the point where he knows more German than Hungarian (according to my notes, the land was constantly lent to Austria by Hungary). He loves castles; his most favorite one is named "Sopron", upon which an eagle is perched (the eagle is in Burgenland's coat of arms).

When Roderich and Elizaveta separated after WW1, given that he's more German than Hungarian, the victors ordered him to move in with Roderich. This caused a bitter dispute between the recently divorced couple on who should really have custody over the young boy, ending with Feliciano attempting to settle the matter by asking Őrvi himself what he wanted.

Őrvi opted to remain with Roderich, but he gave Sopron to Elizaveta, telling her that Sopron (and therefore him in extension) will always be loyal to her. He also told her to take care of the castle because that was his eagle's home, and his eagle needs somewhere to return home to.

During the interim between WW1 and WW2, Alfred befriends him, and the young boy found himself imagining what it would be like to live with Alfred (many of Burgenland's residents migrated to the US during this period).

After the Anschluss, Őrvi was separated from Roderich (Burgenland was dissolved by the Nazis). He was briefly reunited with Elizaveta when Hungary and Germany became allies. But before he knew it, Ludwig's boss invaded Hungary, and eventually Őrvi was forced to build a defensive wall against a possible Russian invasion (the Ostwall was created with the help of forced Jewish labour).

After WW2, with Roderich completely powerless and under the mercy of the allies, Ivan took the young Őrvi and bullied him, especially for having built the wall. When Roderich was finally freed, he took Őrvi back. (Burgenland was re-established by Russia, but the people had to endure serious mistreatement. Burgenland was given back to Austria after it regained independence).

Elizaveta, who remained under Ivan, fought to gain her independence, but was halted and brutally punished. However, knowing that her former husband had opened his home to her refugees with Őrvi receiving them wholeheartedly greatly relieved her. (The Bridge of Andau - the most important location in my first fic that makes no mention of Őrvi whatsoever - is located in Burgenland.)

Years later, using Őrvi as her stepping stone, Elizaveta manages to convince Ivan to let her see her "family". Her request was fulfilled (the Pan-European picnic took place in the village of Klingenbach in Burgenland).

When the borders were finally opened again, Őrvi happily straddles the area between Roderich and Elizaveta, serving as their link in the modern world.

Happily ever after for Őrvi. Good for him! (\*^^*/)

Anyway, I suppose one can see the reason why I placed a lot of importance on him in the past. Being the Austrian state located on the border with Hungary, a lot of events took place in Burgenland that pertains to the two countries.

He'd probably still be in my headcanon today if I had not had a hiatus in my Hetalia fandom. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not. (lol)
